The following statement is from Congressional Candidate for California’s 30th District, Jirair Ratevosian, in reaction to the Israel-Hamas war:
“I unequivocally condemn the barbaric terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel that has targeted innocent civilians, including US citizens. My heart is broken for the families who are reeling from the recent violence perpetrated by Hamas. It is unimaginable and unforgivable.
Just like the ethnic cleansing that is taking place now in my Armenian homeland, the international community should NEVER ignore the killing of innocent people because of identity. Armenians and Jewish communities are bound together by a common legacy of being targeted for genocide. Armenians and Palestinians share the experience of being marginalized and displaced.
As a public health doctor, I am concerned about the escalation of war, the attacks on health infrastructure, and the looming humanitarian crises in Gaza, the region, and around the world. We must do everything in our might to fight terrorist organizations and their supporters, while doing everything feasible to minimize civilian casualties.
I stand with Palestinians who are reckoning with the continued harm, violence, terrorism done in their names, and grieve their lost loved ones.
I stand with the Jewish community in Los Angeles and around the world as they grieve their unimaginable losses.”
